Open Studio for Pottery Wheels

Description: Open Studio allows people to come in at a time that is convenient for them, utilizing our studio to create their own clay projects on the wheel. Open Studio entitles use of our clay throwing tool kit and a pottery wheel.

For Whom: Teens and Adults with previous pottery wheel experience. (We take your word for this, but we strongly advise NOT trying the wheel without some instruction if you have not been successful on the wheel in the past! We offer great one time lessons and classes too.)

When: During our open hours with availability. Wheels are limited (5) and we recommend calling ahead to be sure there isn’t a planned lesson or previous reservation.

Cost: Earthenware starts at $16/5 lb. block, stoneware is available based on experience and with staff approval.

Additional Fees: Firing a piece is additional and is based on the height and width of the piece. Firing starts at $5 per piece and includes both the bisque and glaze firings as well as the glaze.  The is an additional $10 cleaning fee for any wheels that are not cleaned after use.

Firing Details: Pieces will be fired and available in about 14 days. From the time pieces are fired and we notify you, we offer up to 30 days to come in and paint your pieces for no additional fee. If it is after the 30 days, there is a $5 painting fee. We are not responsible for pieces left longer than 60 days.

Membership

Description: Membership allows people to come in at a time that is convenient for them, utilizing our studio to create their own clay projects, and entitles the member to storage space, use of our clay tools, access to the pottery wheels, firing and glazing based on the size of your pieces and for work that is completed during the membership time frame.

For Whom: Teens and Adults with previous pottery wheel experience.

When: During our open hours with availability. Wheels are limited (5) and we recommend calling ahead to be sure there isn’t a planned lesson or previous reservation.

How it Works: Membership is based on an amount of rented storage space for one month. We offer full and half shelf memberships. Clay is purchased from us and can be stored on the shelf or brought back and forth depending on how you would like to use your storage space. Access to the space is available Mon – Wed 7 a.m. – 8 p.m., Thurs – Sat 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m..

Costs:

  • Half Shelf –  24″L x 18″D – $40/month
  • Full Shelf – 48″L x 18″D – $75/month
  • Earthenware Clay – $15/12.5 lbs., $25/25 lbs.
  • Stoneware Clay – $17/12.5 lbs., $30/25 lbs.
  • Porcelain Clay – $18/12.5 lbs., $34/25 lbs.

Firing Details: We run a bisque firing about every 14 days. Pieces fired in a membership will be returned to the storage shelf. Firing benefits are only valid during the active membership. Because the firing schedules vary a little, we will work with each individual to assess covered firings should there be pieces outstanding at the end of a membership. Firing is included for pieces up to the value of the shelf.

Purchasing a Membership: Memberships are sold in studio only so that our staff can explain the program fully and discuss the benefits and restrictions in person.
